I apologise for the delay of the second post on this blog.  Lots has happened since my last posting. I have been on a couple of trips and have now had some good work experience.

I have travelled to both Holland and Belgium since my last posting, where I have had several incredible experiences. More will be mentioned in future posts detailing about both trips as well as some other trips planned to demonstrate how the mind and psyche works in the eyes of an Asperger’s individual when travelling.
There has been a lot of news articles lately talking about people in wheelchairs having trouble with both travelling and getting on planes. Some reports have mentioned about the individuals being escorted off and even denied, boarding the planes. This following article from the Huffington Post suggests about making space for wheelchair users on the aircraft in the same way as on the buses without the individuals having to get out of their chairs. I think that is an excellent idea and a step to making travel accessible on the physically disabled side of things.

I have also seen a few articles about Autistic people being taken off the planes for being too disruptive.  I feel that there needs to be a clear distinction between physically and mentally disabled people getting the coverage and any positive treatment by the media. As an individual with Asperger’s, I feel that people with mental disabilities such as Autism and Asperger’s are not getting the support they need and deserve, especially as far as travel is concerned. I personally need a travel companion and have been through several agencies where many have charged me ridiculous amounts of money for a travel companion.  They charge for 24-hour care which I don’t need, on top of flights, accommodation, etc which is totally unacceptable.
I hope I can emphasise more in future posts about my experiences and how I could help you too with the same queries and hope you will accomplish the same things as I do.
